In celebration of Seniors Week, nine of our enthusiastic members, accompanied by Trainer Pepita, embarked on a journey to the heart of Melbourne CBD. The day was filled with exploration, delicious treats, and history as they explored the hidden gems of our city.
The adventure began at the Noble Park Aquatic Centre, where everyone gathered before heading to the Noble Park Train Station, setting the tone for a day of discovery.
Degraves Lane & Flinders Lane: Morning Tea Treats The group’s first stop was Degraves Lane, one of Melbourne’s iconic laneways. The group indulged in a delicious morning tea at Brunetti’s on Flinders Lane, a café well-known for its aromatic coffee and sweet pastries. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the exciting day ahead.
French Lane & Capital Arcade: Tiny Alleys, Big Charm Next, they wandered through the cozy and picturesque French Lane, home to a tiny French crêpe shop that captured everyone’s hearts. The scenic walk continued through Capital Arcade, famous for its LED lighting that added a vibrant, modern touch to their journey. This part of the city offered a beautiful contrast between the old and the new.
Block Arcade & Royal Arcade: Stepping Back in Time One of the highlights was exploring the historic Block Arcade, where members marveled at retro clothing stores, bridal dress boutiques, and millinery shops. It is also home to Melbourne’s oldest tea room, a nostalgic nod to the city’s heritage. Moving on, the group visited the Royal Arcade, where the two guards, Gog and Magog, still strike the bell every hour, a sight that fascinated everyone.
Hardware Lane & Melbourne Central: A Culinary and Shopping Adventure As lunchtime approached, the group strolled through Hardware Lane, known for its charming restaurants. From there, they continued their journey to Melbourne Central, passing through the famous Myer department store. Lunch was enjoyed at the bustling Emporium, a modern food haven that satisfied every appetite.
Flinders Street & Homeward Bound The day wound down with a final stop at Flinders Street. While the group originally planned to visit a local hub, they found it unavailable, as it only operates on Sundays. Instead, they enjoyed a relaxing coffee before heading home from Flinders Street Station, reflecting on a day filled with fun, laughter, and good company.
This trip was not just about sightseeing—it was about connecting with one another and sharing special moments in a city that never ceases to amaze.
